After gaining Wyatt's reluctant assistance, Phoebe had come back to her rooms yesterday afternoon and took a shower. She then cleaned the rooms very thoroughly and did laundry -- and how did her bra get up there? After doing all of that, she had passed out on the couch in the main room.

Today, she had moved the table and couch back so that there was a nice clear area in the main room with which they could work.

Hopefully, she'd be able to use the spell to go right to Cole and find out what was going on. She knew that Wyatt was worried that the voice she was hearing could be a trap, but she really didn't think so. She knew that it was Cole reaching out to her. Their souls had always been linked, so if he was in need of help, why wouldn't she hear him?

She laid a pillow on the floor where she would cast the spell -- no reason to give herself a concussion when she left her body -- and paced as she waited for the others to arrive.

In the Wastelands, Bel was scrambling on top of a pile of rocks, narrowly avoiding the Beast. He really wasn't sure why he was fighting it so hard anymore.

When Phoebe opened her eyes, the landscape she saw was both depressing and scary. It was red and... barren everywhere.

"Cole!" She called out. "Cole, where are you?"

And now came the hearing voices. Shouldn't surprise him that this place would drive him crazy.

But he instinctively looked toward the sound of the voice, and to his shock, he saw Phoebe standing on the sands. And the Beast was burrowing towards her. He didn't stop to think; he jumped down and ran toward her, grabbing her arm. "Phoebe! What are you doing here?"

"Cole. It is you!" She threw her arms around him. "You... you called me for help," she stammered out, confused.

She had thought he would be a little happier to see her.

He was happy to see her, but there wasn't any time for him to say that at the moment. "This way, hurry!" he said, pulling her after him as he climbed back up on the safety of the rocks.

Once there, he embraced her tightly. "Phoebe . . . how did you get here?"

After they got where he was taking them, Phoebe clung to him, trying to calm her shaking.

"I've missed you so much," she said. "I heard you calling me yesterday morning iand I thought I was losing my mind, but Anders believed me, and even though Wyatt is worried it was another demon attack on me since Dane attacked, but he agreed to help me and I cast a spell so I could find you."

She said that all in one breath.

"You heard me?" Cole said, feeling a surge of elation. "But you don't belong here. You shouldn't be here, Phoebe. It's not safe for you."

"You didn't think I wouldn't come when I heard you asking for my help, did you?" She shook her head. "It apparently isn't safe for you, either, love. Where are we?"

"The Wastelands," Cole said. "Where all vanquished demons end up. The Beast feeds on their essence, their powers. We'll be safe here but not for long. We have to keep moving, the Beast will devour us both, for eternity."

"Huh... is there where Dane ended up after he attacked me, then?" She looked up into his face. "We have to get you out of here."

"Dane attacked you?" Cole said, then growled, "I'll kill him."

"I already did," she tried to soothe him. "I killed him with your Athame a few days ago. I'm not allowed to leave Fandom alone anymore, though. Wyatt, Chris, Anders and a few others have insisted upon it since there could be more attempts on me."

Cole looked down. "You know that . . . what happened? That wasn't me. Right?"

Phoebe made him look at her. "Of course I know that. You would never have hurt those people, or me or endangered us like he did. That is not something you could do."

He touched a hand to her face. "I tried to stop the Source, but I couldn't. I'm sorry for everything I did. And . . . you did the right thing, vanquishing me."

"It wasn't you," she said softly, leaning into his hand and then leaning up to kiss him. "I know that... and so does everyone else, love." When he mentioned the vanquishing, tears really did fill her eyes. "I hated having to do that... but I knew... I knew that you wouldn't have wanted to be used like that."

Or so she kept trying to convince herself.

"I'd rather be dead," Cole confirmed. Then he sighed and looked around. "And now I am."

Phoebe fliched slightly, but did her best to hide it.

"But... you obviously are not meant to be dead because you've held on long enough to get through to me..."

"I wanted the chance to say that I was sorry," Cole said softly. "And to say goodbye. My human soul let me do that."

"No," Phoebe shook her head emphatically. "No. We are going to find a way to get you out of here, Cole. I have to believe there was more to it than that." She looked at him. "I said goodbye once and it has nearly killed me. I am not doing it again. You hang on and you do not give up, you hear me?"

"There's no way out for me, Phoebe," Cole said, shaking his head. "I'm dead. I held on to our love long enough for me to get through to you, but. . . ."

Phoebe had tears escaping as she placed a hand on either side of his face. "No," she said fiercely. "No! I am not losing you again. We have powerful friends, Cole. We can save you. Our love... the link we share... if you cannot believe in life at least believe in that. I am not willing to lose you again, do you understand? If you give up now, you might as well just take me with you."
