Tuesday Morning, 518/520

Phoebe counted it as quite the success that she was able to attend all three of her classes yesterday without losing it completely and running away. Conflict Management had been especially tough as she couldn't stop looking over at the desk that Cole had usually occupied.

However, coming back to the room was still so very hard to handle.

Which was why she was sitting in the chair by the window. She had woken up on the couch after a night of drinking alone.

She had stumbled into the shower and stayed in until the water ran cold. Then, she had gotten dressed and come out here to make coffee and watch the sun come up.

Now?

Now she had a cup of tea she was pretending to drink and a book she was pretending to read.

"Holding up... kind of... for the most part?" She sighed. "I managed to make myself go to classes yesterday."

"That's good," Anders told her, realizing he'd forgotten to do that himself. Oh, brilliant, Samuel. Quit wallowing already, will you? "I kind of meant to check up on you sooner. Kind of holding up is good, though, right?"

Phoebe nodded. "Yes, it's good," she agreed. "How are you?"

"About the same," Anders admitted, shoving his hands in his pockets and leaning against the wall. "Everything's a little hazy and kind of surreal."

Phoebe nodded. "Yeah... it's kind of like I'm not really a part of the world right now."

"Yeah," Anders said quietly. "That's pretty much it. I know we can't stay this way forever, but right now it kind of seems easier."

"Yeah, much easier." She nodded. "Nights... they're the hardest."

"I bet," Anders said. Impulsively, he went over to give her a hug. "Sleeping alone after you haven't been used to it in forever is awful. I know exactly how it is."

Phoebe hugged him back and nodded. "It's hard. I've been sleeping on the couch when I do sleep. Mostly? I have long conversations with the Tequila bottle."

"I hear that," Anders said sympathetically. "I keep crashing on Bridge's spare bed, and me and the ambrosia spend some quality time together."

Phoebe leaned her head against him. "What's Ambrosia?"

"Really good booze from back home," Anders explained. "Bright green, really strong. Got a couple bottles in my room still, I think."
