Late Monday Night - Selkie Cove

After she finally left Caritas, Phoebe hadn't wanted to go back to the dorms. The idea that Cole may not come back to their rooms tonight was something that she really was not ready to face.

So, in a brilliant design of Dealing Through Avoidance, Phoebe found herself in the one place that she was always drawn to when she was upset or needed to think.

Selkie Cove.

Instead of climbing up on the rocks, she sat down on the sand near the water. She pulled her knees up to rest her chin on them and stared out over the water. She listened to the waves and watched the stars reflect on the ocean.

Ellen was right. She had screwed up but good. Not only would she not be surprised if Cole never talked to her again... she would deserve it if he wanted nothing to do with her after this. When she had agreed to find someone to cast the spell, it had never entered her thoughts that she was messing with Cole's mind --- or that what she was doing was no better than what others had done to him in the Underworld.

She felt guilty and very sick to her stomach. The look on his face when she had told him what she had done... and the emotions she had picked up from him...

It made no difference that she hadn't been the one to actually cast the spell. She had helped to set it up and she had betrayed him in the worst way possible.

And this time... she didn't even have the excuse that she had been possessed to fall back on.

Phoebe was surprised, but for only a moment and she tightened her arms around him and held onto him tightly.

"I'm sorry," she sobbed into his chest. "I'm sorry."

Anders quietly wrapped his arms around both of them, hugging them for all he was worth.

"I know," Cole said softly. "It's okay."

"Didn't mean to hurt you. I didn't mean to... to mess with your will like that."

Anders stayed silent for now and held on to them -- Phoebe because he knew how upset she'd been, and Bel just because he didn't want to let go.

"I get why you did it," Bel said slowly. "Just . . . don't do anything like that again, okay? Talk to me first?"

Phoebe nodded against him. "I will. I promise, never again. I won't."

"And I'll never try and talk anyone into something like that again," Anders said suddenly.

"Good," Bel said. "We'll just put this behind us."

Phoebe continued to hold onto Cole. Her fear that she had lost him was probably why she wasn't planning on letting go anytime soon.

"I love you guys," Anders said, holding both of them in a fierce embrace. Privately he still wasn't entirely sure that Bel really trusted him again, or even that he should; he couldn't really believe Bel was letting this go as easily as he was.

But damn, was he ever glad neither he nor Phoebe were going to be alone and miserable tonight thanks to his stupidity.

Hence the intense hugging.

Bel was still feeling a little stung by betrayal, but he did his best to push it aside. He didn't want this incident looming between them and causing more friction. He could understand their reasoning, at least, so that helped. Hugging them close, he murmured, "Love you."

Anders would have liked to be able to say that if it had come down to it, he would have gladly packed his things and gone back to the second floor as long as Bel didn't hold any of this against Phoebe, and things worked out between them.

He wasn't entirely that selfless, though, much as some part of him wished he was. Still, selfless or not he was glad they were at least getting a chance to work things out . . . and that nobody was going to have to spend the night upset, hurt, and alone.

"Be a little more comfortable talking this out in the room . . . if we're up to talking about it now," he suggested hesitantly.

Bel nodded. "Yeah, we should go back to the room," he agreed.
