South Attic --- Late Thursday Night --- A Signature That Should Not Be

After Caritas, Phoebe had been flipping through her yearbook when she came across an entry that shouldn't have been there. In fact, there was no possible way it could have been put there. Shaking, she traced the words in the book and shook her head in dismay.



Dear Miss Phoebe,
Thank you ever so much for assisting us in our clean up the other weekend. We would have had a dreadful time if you hadn't led us directly to him. The Captain told me, in his own little silent way, that he is very sorry that all the anger and hatred he has caused you so much pain, it was not his intent to harm you in such away. It's just that, well, he has his enemy and when he fights, he cannot help but think of him.

Good luck with your future endeavours with demons.

She slammed her yearbook shut and left the Attic, after leaving a note for Cole about where she was going.

She had to find one of the others that were there that night.

Pippi! She had to find Pippi and see if she had gotten one, too. Then, she would talk to the others.

How? How had he done this?

Pippi was already on her way up the stairs to Phoebe's.

Phoebe wasn't really surprised to see Pippi on the stairs.

"The roof?" she suggested, not wanting Cole to see her upset just yet.

Pippi is clutching her yearbook. She doesn't say anything, she just nods.

She looks a little green.

Phoebe looks worried and a little sick herself, so she just nods and leads Pippi up to the roof. Once they're outside, she seeks out a corner where they won't be disturbed.

Worrying her bottom lip, she taps her yearbook. "You, too?"

Pippi nodded as she opened her yearbook to a marked page and held it out (http://strongestgirl.livejournal.com/36739.html?thread=251011#t251011). Her eyes were down cast, she didn't seem to want to look at the page.

Phoebe gasps and her face pales. She holds her book out, with that page opened, as well.

"H-how?"

Pippi didn't want to read what Phoebe had in her yearbook, she was already sick to her gut about what was in hers. But she read it anyway because, well, it's only fair.

They know. They know who is most important. They could come back and use that.

They're not coming back. They'd better not come back.

Or there will be a repeat of what happened in the caves?

I wasn't angry then.

What about now?

"I don't know." she choked out finally. "I don't even know how they know about Pip. He didn't leave the dorms all weekend. I didn't say anything to either of them about either Walter or Pip."

Her eyes glisten in what light there is.

Phoebe hugged Pippi, hoping it was okay.

"Pippi, listen to me," she said, her own voice sounding strained and a little scared. "They will not come back and we won't let them get ahold of Walter or Pip. We won't let them hurt those we care about."

Pippi hugged Phoebe back, gently, Pippi did everything gently.

"It said 'when the time comes'. I don't know when that is. Walter is from like 55 years in the past! I can't go back into the past with him, I'm already there, but then I don't know him! We're only here for four years Phoebe, nothing lasts forever."

She might actually be getting a little hysterical.

Phoebe swallowed.

"Nothing lasts forever, and nothing is set in stone, either. Just because school is only for four years, it doesn't mean that we are only here for four years." The time thing confused her still. "Right now, they're safe... and so are you. I think we should try to find out how they know?"

Pippi nodded and rubbed her eyes.

"I dunno how we can find out... Unless. We could try my crystal ball?"

Phoebe thought about that for a second.

"We could try that as long as we take proper precautions." And we don't tell Cole for he will kick my ass for doing this without him there to watch over me.

This was a new concept to Pippi.

"What sort of precautions?"

"Like a protective circle around our work area."

"I've never tried that before."

Maybe that's why it never works very well.

It's worked just fine when it's needed.

Sure.

Pippi shook her head.

"I'm really tired Phoebe. I don't know that I'm up for it tonight."

Phoebe nodded. "Don't over-extend yourself," she agreed. "We can take care of this tomorrow or another day. But we will get to the bottom of this."

Pippi nodded and stood up.

"Okay." she said, and then looked at Phoebe with a small smile. "Thanks."
