South Attic --- Locked to demonbelthazor

Since Phoebe didn't have class until CJ's class, and yesterday had been way too sad (and she was worried about Cole after Paranormal Sociology), she let herself into the South Attic. She bypassed the main room and the kittens and let herself into the room that she had Cole had shared.

She leaned against the door and watched him sleep for a long time, and shook her head.

She'd save him, she would.

She kicked her shoes off and climbed into the bed next to him. She wrapped her arms around him and laid her head against his back.

"Phoebe?" Cole murmured sleepily.

Phoebe nodded against him. "Yeah, sweetheart, it's me."

He rolled over to face her. "Not that I'm complaining, but why are you here?"

Phoebe smiled faintly.

"I wanted to see you..."

"Missed you," he said, softly stroking her hair.

"Missed you, too," she agreed, moving closer.

"I'm glad you're here," he said, kissing her tentatively. "What...what made you change your mind?"

There was nothing tentative in her kiss.

"I needed to see you," she admitted softly. "I don't know what me coming here this morning changes, but I wanted to see you... and after yesterday's Paranormal class, I needed to check on you and make sure you were alright."

"Why were you worried?" he asked, puzzled.

She bit her lip. "The discussion about what happens after we die? I... I heard what you told Grissom. Of course, you probably couldn't tell I was watching you as Lana was trying to keep me from bolting when I answered the question."

He shrugged a little. "It's what happens to demons. It might be a little different for me, since I'm half human, but I wouldn't count on it."

"I won't let it happen... not to you," she said softly.

"I thought...I thought you didn't want anything to do with me anymore," he said softly.

Phoebe closed her eyes. "Just because I can't be with you right now, it doesn't mean that I don't love you more than my own life, Cole. It doesn't mean I'm going to just stand back and watch anyone or anything hurt you." She ran a hand along his chest. "I will always love you, Cole."

"I love you," he said, kissing her again. "I don't want to lose you."

"I don't want to be lost," she said softly.

He didn't want to start another fight, so instead he just held her quietly. "I'm glad you're here," he said needlessly. "I hate waking up without you."

Phoebe was relieved that he shared that sentiment. "I don't like waking up without you, either..." She really didn't.

"Want to skip classes and just lie in bed all day?" he said, only half-joking.

[sensethevisions]

"CJ would kill me... she's tutoring me because I'm failing her class."

Phoebe turned over to look into his face.

"Cole... Things fall apart, they fall so hard... You can't ever put them back the way they were... I'm sorry, it's just... I can't make a committment to you with everything going on. You know it takes time. There's so much to work through. Trust has to build again, on both sides... you have to learn if you're even the same people you were, if you can fit in each other's lives, it's a long and important process and for right now... can we just skip it? Can you just be kissing me right now? Just for right now, can we pretend?"

"It's not pretending," Cole said, bringing his lips down on hers.

Phoebe pulled him closer, deepening the kiss. She had almost expected rejection...an argument, and she was glad niether one had happpened.

"We're going to be late for Speech if we keep this up," Cole murmured.

[sensethevisions]

"Mmmhmmm late," she said softly.

"Very late," he agreed, tugging at the neckline of her shirt and kissing her bare shoulder.

Phoebe nodded, tilting her head to the side and closing her eyes as he kissed her. She ran a hand up his chest and around his neck.

"Yes," she whispered in agreement.

After some decidedly NWS and late-for-Speech activity, Cole said shy, "I got you a present while I was getting kimonos for me and Allie's presentation."

Phoebe ran a hand along his face. "You did?"

Cole nodded and got out of bed long enough to fetch a small object wrapped in tissue paper, which he handed to Phoebe. "It's supposed to bring good fortune," he said.

When Phoebe opened the package, she smiled and then hugged Cole. "It's beautiful," she said softly.

"It's called a maneki-neko," Cole said. "The cat of luck. In Japan they say they bring you luck and happiness. I saw one and couldn't resist picking it up for you."

Phoebe smiles again and kissed him. "Thank you."

"We'd better shower before class," Cole said. "I'd ask you to join me but then we'll be really late. You want to go first or shall I?"

Phoebe shook her head. "You can go first, I'm not ready to move yet."

Cole grinned and climbed from the bed. He bent over her and kissed her gently. "I'll just be a few minutes," he said, then disappeared into the bathroom.

Phoebe waited until she heard him step into the shower and then she scrambled into a sitting position and looked around the room. Where to look first?

His desk.

She moved over to his desk and started looking at the titles of books and wondering if... hello, what's this?

Her forehead wrinkled in confusion. Since when did Cole read anything by Dr. Phil?

Relationship Rescue? Well, at least it wasn't Oprah...

She started flipping through the book when something fell out of it.

She put the book down and bent over to pick up the paper from the floor.

She unfolded the paper and frowned.

"Nice hiding place, love," she said softly as she moved to her purse and shoved the folded paper into it's depths.

She heard the water turn off and returned to her comfy spot on the bed.

"Your turn, love," Cole said, emerging from the shower, a towel wrapped around his waist. He looked Phoebe over. "So tempted to join you."

Phoebe grinned. "So... join me then." Yep, keep him in sight... and what a sight.

Cole grinned. "If you insist." He followed Phoebe into the bathroom and joined her for a decidedly NWS shower, making sure every inch of her was clean.

After the shower and they were getting ready for class, Phoebe felt a pang as she realized just how much she missed this kind of thing with Cole.

"Ready to go, love?"

"Ready," Cole said as he gathered up his notes for speech. He gave Phoebe a quick kiss as he took her hand. "You look beautiful."

Phoebe squeezed his hand and kissed him back. "So do you."
