Racing to find a place for my soul ... Or at least a place that&#39;s less familiar

Little did she know what one of her boyfriends was currently . . . her girlfriend. Bel heard Phoebe's cry and stirred from his sleep. He (she?) lifted his head and called out, "Phoebe? You okay?" He was groggy enough that he didn't notice his voice wasn't so deep anymore.

She whimpered, cringing when she realized how deep her voice was. That could be why she didn't realize right away that Cole's voice was different, too.

"Fine," she called back. "Laryngitis!"

What? It sounded reasonable to her.

Anders was mostly snuggled up against a warm female body, and okay, he was kind of sure he'd gone to sleep next to Bel last night, but hey, sometimes there was moving around and that was okay too.

He hadn't yet processed that it'd been the female voice calling out for Phoebe.

"'s goin' on? 's there a -- somethin' to fight or somethin'? How come yelling? Wanna sleeeeeeeeep," he whined, because now there was movement threatening the warm snuggles and why did people sound funny?

Like Phoebe could pull one over on Bel like that.

He elbowed Anders and got up from the bed and leaned against the door. "What's wrong, love?" He frowned at the weird sound of his voice.

"Nothing. I'm fine." She cleared her throat. "My throat hurts is all. No worries."

She frowned a little. "Are you okay?"

Anders sat up and blinked. "If Phoebe's in the bathroom, why am I seeing -- hey, you're not Phoebe," he said to the unfamiliar female body Bel was wearing. "And you're not Bel, either. But you . . . are? 's too early for this!"

"What are you talking about?" Bel said, then took a good look at himself.

And let out a very undignified and girly shriek.

A distressed shriek from the other side of the door was more than enough to get Phoebe out of the bathtub -- tripping a little with the new legs -- and out of the room. When she saw the woman, she shrieked, too.

Only hers came out a lot deeper and more husky.

Okay, there was shrieking, and now Anders was out of bed.

"Oh, hi," he said. "Both of you guys are still hot. How come this never happens to me?"

From:

"I. Am. Not. Female!" Bel snarled. This was just so so wrong.

From:

"And I am not a guy!" Phoebe said, flailing a little.

This may have made things bounce a bit.

"I'm going back in there and not coming out until this goes away!"

She turned and reached for the door.

"I'm sure it'll go away," Anders said, still groggy. But totally eyeing them both. "But still. Hot, you guys."

Bel put out an arm to block Phoebe's path. "You're not going to hide in the bathroom all day," he said, as gruffly as he could. They were, however, going to hide in the room all day.

Phoebe gave Cole a mournful look. "But... but..."

Then she looked at Anders. "But... these aren't... I'm not... I have a penis, damn it!"

"And either of us have a problem with those how?" Anders asked with a sleepy, doofy grin.

From:

". . . stop looking at me like that," Bel said to Anders, even though he had to admit, he did look very good, and wow so did Phoebe.

For her part, Phoebe was having a hard time not checking Cole out.

"Not helping the flailing, Anders," she scolded half-heartedly as she thought about what he said. "Does this mean I get to be the one that gets to break bones if someone tries to touch you?" she asked Cole.

"Can I help?" asked Anders, who, yes, was still looking at Bel just like that.

From:

"I'm not helpless!" Bel insisted. Except his balance was totally off now and he didn't feel as strong as he usually did. At least his female body was in good shape.

"I'm not usually, either," Phoebe pointed out. "But that doesn't stop you."

She tilted her head. "We're going to need to raid each other's clothes..."

And boy did that sound weird.

"I thought this stuff wasn't going to happen once we left Fandom."

"This stuff never happens to me," Anders griped, in what would prove to be a common theme today.

Bel made a face. "I am not wearing a bra," he said, even though he totally needed to. "And how come you're so lucky?" he added to Anders.

"Oh the hell you're not, Cole. I'm not going to have you jiggling around at everyone today. You're ours and I will not hesitate to hurt someone."

The gruffness was a new sound coming from her and she put her hands on her hips and gave her best glare.
